10/11- Stonehill College Comes to the Club

Last week, a wide range of students from Stonehill College, including their football team, their Rotaract Club, and a group of generous volunteers, made their way down to the Club to help our members in impactful and positive ways. While the volunteers helped out in our Kids Cafe, the Rotaract Club spoke to our teens about the importance of leadership and what they can do to make a difference in their community. Later, the football team stressed the importance of academic success in a potential athletic career. Our members loved it, and learned so much about giving back and their own professional development.

10/2- National Bullying Prevention Month

October's here, and while we're all excited for the Holiday Season to begin (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas!), this month we are focusing on Bullying Prevention, a cause that is extremely important in the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton. We pride ourselves on providing a safe and inclusive Club environment to our LGBTQ members, and have a zero tolerance policy on bullying, harassment, and the use of derogatory terms.

This month, we will be partnering with Planet Fitness in their Judgement Free Generation Campaign. From now until October 15th, new members can register for $5 down and $10 a month, with the $5 enrollment fee being donated to Boys & Girls Club of America. This money not only provides Clubs with the opportunity to receiving training for their youth development staff, but it also supports Judgement Free Generation Scholarships for youth that embody kindness and inclusion in their Club.  With the funds raised in 2016, 10 Judgement Free Scholarships for $5,000 each were awarded for a total of $50,000.

9/26- #HungerIs Campaign Kick Off

This year, we are partnering with Shaw's Supermarket for the Hunger Is Campaign, established in 2014 by the Albertsons Foundation and The Entertainment Industry Foundation. The Campaign aims to build awareness and raise funds in an effort to eradicate childhood hunger in America. Striving towards these goals, Hunger Is has a core grant program that provides meals to children and families that are in need, while also connecting these kids to healthy foods, providing food education, and eliminating the shame that hungry kids feel. Since it's beginning, Hunger Is has raised more than $18 million to fight childhood hunger.

From now until October 15th, Shaw's Supermarkets will be raising donations to fund our Kids Cafe Healthy Meals Program, which serves 300 kids healthy dinners every night. This totals to more than 4,000 meals served per month and nearly 50,000 meals serve annually in the Brockton community.

9/25- 2017 Rodman Ride

Last Saturday, we kicked off this year's Annual Rodman Ride! The Rodman Ride is an annual cycling event at the end of a year-long fundraising effort to raise money for youth-focused social service organizations that support at-risk children in Massachusetts. Not only is the ride a fun and active way to fundraise, but since the Rodman for Kids is an umbrella matching charity, Rodman matches our funds at a 3% rate, so the money raised can go even further towards improving the quality of the Club! A huge thank you to our riders of course, who completed the 25, 50, and 100 mile courses throughout  Massachusetts, and to the volunteers from Taunton High School that were stationed at our Water Stop for the duration of the day. We do this event every year, so if you think you'd be interested in becoming a rider next year, keep us in mind!

9/25- Sign up for our Specialty Enrichment Programs!

There's still time to sign up for this session's Specialty Enrichment programs! And with buy one get free, there's no reason not to. While your child is able to enjoy our facilities every day after school for the $35 year long membership, our Specialty Enrichment Programs allow for more directed and structured activities, where your child can have fun while they learn. This year, we're offering recycled art classes, STEM sessions in our state of the art lab, cooking classes, hip hop in our dance studio, basketball, soccer, and Saturday morning programming.
